Essential Oil Blends for your Morning Meditation Practice



Do you meditate? If not I highly suggest you start! I started meditating about a year ago and when I actively practice regular meditation I (and those around me) can really see and feel the difference it makes in my mental state.

There are soooo many informative posts and articles and even books about the many health benefits you can get through a regular meditation practice. I particularly enjoyed Dan Harris's book 10% Happier and  his podcast is listed on my list of favorites on this blog. You can find the link here.

While meditation is beneficial at all different times of the day there are many experts that claim cultivating a morning meditation practice is a very good way to set your intentions for the day and improve productivity at work and in your career.

One of the things that most people struggle with when they get started with meditation is settling their busy mind. For many the mind is a runaway train on its own. This is why using essential oils can really benefit you in your meditation practice. Essential oils assist the body to physiologically align with the mental state you are trying to achieve. When rest is your focus and you use a restful essential oil blend the oils actually help your physical body to come into a restful state, thereby helping your mind to follow.

Additionally, the smell of the oil then helps your mind to remember that physical state and works in conjunction with your memory to induce a faster response to the oils in the future. This is a fantastic way to assist your meditation practice and help you to achieve your best results faster and with less effort.


In the morning meditation is often used as a way of centering your mind that is anxious about the upcoming day. It also can help energize us when we have those days we don’t want to get out of bed. The practice of focusing the mind in the morning, envisioning the accomplishment of goals, and calming anxious thoughts are ways that assist with higher levels of productivity. After all, if you fail to plan - you plan to fail. Setting your intentions early in the day will help bring you closer to your own personal and professional goals. While it takes effort and practice to become proficient at meditation, studies show that even if it doesn’t seem like you are progressing, the improvements in the body and mind are there so keep at it.


These are a few of my favorite morning meditation blends from doTERRA:

Passion® Inspiring Blend: 

Are you dragging your behind this morning? Are you struggling to get your day started? Do you find yourself wandering aimlessly about and not able to get it in gear? Passion® is my favorite blend when I feel like this.

Diffuse Passion® near you as you meditate or use the touch applicator and place on your wrists and behind your ears. Or place a little on the center of your palms and inhale deeply. The spicy scent brings your focus to the present and gives you a little boost to get moving in the right direction. Center yourself in meditation and envision yourself accomplishing all you wish to today. When you are finished you will be ready to get moving!


Forgive® Renewing Blend: 

This is easily my most favorite blend! I diffuse Forgive® every day at work and when I work from home. This blend will help you center yourself when the pressures of life are beating at your door and you feel overwhelmed and not sure where to start your day. Diffuse or use the touch applicator on your wrists and behind your ears to invoke feelings of peaceful, purposeful calm/steady energy. Forgive® smells like a walk in a forest and strengthens the mind while it relaxes the body. While meditating envision your heart opening and your inner strength building so you can gracefully and purposefully move through your morning.



Motivate® Encouraging Blend:

Can every blend be one of my favorites? If so this is another one. Motivate® Encouraging Blend is designed to boost confidence and increase courage. If you are feeling fearful, anxious or doubtful this blend will counteract those feelings and help you move beyond them. Motivate® is a bright citrus blend with a hint of mint that smells fresh and clean. This is a great blend to diffuse while meditating and even apply over your heart to bring out your confidence. Inhale deeply as you envision yourself overcoming those challenges that are scaring you. See yourself as strong, confident and accomplished and feel the shift in your energy as you bring that state into fruition.


I highly encourage you to start a meditation practice with just a couple of minutes in the morning setting your intentions for the day, it doesn’t have to be long - 5 minutes or less is highly beneficial. By using essential oils to help bring your body into alignment with your purposeful thoughts you can start to design the life you want instead of letting your environment dictate how your day goes.
