Keto Coffee - Magic Elixir

If you follow me at all on social media you probably know about my recent Keto love affair. If not, let me bring you up to speed. A couple of months ago I saw my doctor for my annual exam and discovered that I had high blood pressure. I have always (and I mean ALWAYS) maintained a BP of 110/70. It never changed - EVER. So my doctor who has been seeing me for years was naturally concerned. She started talking high blood pressure meds, taking me off birth control (which at 46 I use to keep me from bleeding to death every month) and basically upsetting the regular flow of my life. And I wasn't having it.

My life has been super stressful the last few years and I've taken big steps to master managing stress, prioritizing nutrition and taking really good care of myself. Unfortunately, despite all that with the onset of menopause and all that goes with it I have gained about 40 pounds. I'm 5'3" and that is a LOT of weight on my frame and my body has never carried this much weight before. When I asked my doctor about whether or not this weight gain could be contributing to my sudden spike in bp she said it was possible and I really felt like this was the only thing that was out of whack in my life and I decided to finally get a handle on it.

Without going into too much detail in this post (another time I promise) I was introduced to Keto at a time when all of my efforts to lose weight through traditional means were not working out and I was desperate and finally ready to take the Keto leap. I since discovered why I needed Keto to heal my body and I will share more about that in a future post but one of the first things I decided to try on my Keto journey was coffee again,

As you may know from some of my previous posts I had given up coffee and caffeine in general. I am caffeine sensitive (or so I thought) and I thought it was affecting me negatively. As I healed my body with Keto I discovered I could have 1 cup of coffee a day and I was thrilled but I soon discovered that I really wasn't in love with coffee as much as I was in love with the ritual and the CREAMER.

We as Americans have such a love affair with coffee but very few of us drink healthy coffee. We soup it up with creamer and sugary flavors and tons of unhealthy calories from sugars of all kinds. When you decide to adopt a healthier lifestyle this oh-so common treat becomes something we can no longer enjoy and we feel deprived not just physically but socially.

Well I'm about to change all that!

Healthy Coffee

Before I get into the recipe why would I claim to have a healthy coffee alternative? Because Keto Coffee is designed to fuel your body with healthy fats that stabilize blood sugars, feed your brain to promote focus and stable energy for hours. I have this coffee at 8:30 every morning and I have no need for my next meal until 11:00 because my body has the nutrition it needs to function effectively. AND it tastes AMAZING so you won't feel deprived!

What's In It?

My favorite thing about this recipe is that since it is CRUCIAL to my day-to-day life I NEED to be able to have all the coffee fixin's on hand every single day. Not every grocery store in every city and state has these things on hand at all times. BUT being the Amazon lover I am I actually like to order these supplies online and have them shipped to me for fee on Prime.  I'll attach some links for you below for these ingredients just in case you can't find them at your local store.

Garden of Life MCT Oil

Vital Proteins Collagen Creamer (Coconut)

Califia Farms Almond Milk Creamer (Unsweetened)

Sweet Leaf Sweet Drops (Vanilla Creme)

Jazz It Up

Want to jazz up that coffee even more and still keep it keto? Try adding these to your taste:

1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder

Unsweetened whipped cream (make your own if you want) with a few drops of stevia

Sprinkle of cinnamon

Unsweetened Flavored Coffee Syrups (look for no sugar or carbs)

Any of these options will help satisfy your coffee craving without kicking you out of ketosis and even help you as you learn to live with less carbs and sugar.

I mentioned earlier that I started this Keto journey as a way to lose weight and get healthier and great news - It's Working!! In a little over 10 days I've lost 7 pounds! Not only that I feel AMAZING! Keto is known to help improve mood, focus, eliminate brain fog and give you more energy as your body adapts to burning the excess fat on your body for fuel. I have literally never felt better! So if you have been on the fence when it comes to keto I want to encourage you to give it a try!

I hope you found this recipe helpful and you enjoy this coffee as much as I do. Be sure to drop me some comments too with your favorite ways to make keto coffee!
